Moon Smut: Berlin

Made it to a very rainy, gloomy Berlin. Listening to doom metal was a very fitting soundtrack to the cloudy sky and smoke stacks and boxy architecture. The venue tonight was Kastanienkeller, a basement venue attached to a coffee shop. This has been the coolest looking venue thus far, very cave like. There were lots of signs decrying fascism racism, homophobia, etc. Very nice to be around like-minded people, even half way across the world.

Upon arrival I immediately went to a nearby comic shop that actually had English language comics. Picked up Weathercraft in the Frank universe from Jim Woodring and a monster art collection. Also picked up Injection by Warren Ellis, per the staff's recommendation.

Back at the venue we had a fantastic home cooked meal of stuffed bell peppers, bean salad and garlic bread. Yet again the hospitality was top notch. We shared the table with some locals and this time around a lot of the German bands and staff were very stern. Even their stray cats were stern looking. It wasn't until later in the evening that everyone really loosened up and became much more friendly. I think it was the 750mL beers working their magic.

The opening bands, Sick Again and Streit, were great. The venue offered a lot of pilsners, including a locally brewed vegan pils. We had a great, very telling, conversation about the first time everyone discovered masturbation and their parent's porn stash.

Right before White Christ took the stage I had to go for a brown load and did my business... only to find out there was no toilet paper. Now this is a situation I've been in before at work and home but there is usually a cabinet you can hop to to get a roll or someone you can yell at to assist you but without wifi or the ability to contact anyone, I simply pulled my pants up. I know this is not ideal but your humble narrator had no other option. I quickly fumbled my way downstairs to the venue owner and stated my request for a roll of TP to address my "sticky" situation.

We are now headed two hours south to our driver Tommy's house in Dresden. I believe we'll get to see some of the city before we head out tomorrow.

Personal note: the guys keep smoking cigarettes in tiny rooms that we are in and it's terribly annoying. I hope they read this and feel awful. Fuck y'all!

Byeeeeeeee!
